Did you know water๐Ÿ’งsafety isn't just for at the pool?! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Being water safe involves bathtubs/showers, sinks, toilets, water inflatables, pots, buckets, and water attractions! Most of which are unique and special ๐Ÿฆ„ to your home ๐Ÿ  and family ๐Ÿ‘ช. ๐Ÿ†’ tips for all families and some specific tips for children with exceptionalities are below.๐Ÿ‘‡
1. Try to reduce fear ๐Ÿ˜จ children can be naturally curious ๐Ÿ˜บ of water but this can easily turn to fear in the wrong situation. The look, touch, temperature, or buoyant properties of water can induce panic if the child is not comfortable. Try to find what works and doesn't work for your child, you know them best! Try things together in a familiar place and with different learning styles/tools. Remember to make it as fun ๐Ÿ˜† with games/toys ๐ŸŽฎ and to try and share these things with your next swim instructor.
2. Life Vests!! Life vests do not prevent ๐Ÿ’ฏ percent of drownings, but they do help keep the child more visible ๐Ÿ‘€ in the water and can buy precious seconds for rescue๐Ÿš‘. Also adaptive life vests can provide additional head and neck support for individuals with low muscle tone. Some children find the tightness of a jacket comforting in the water.
3. Sign up for swim lessons and adaptive programs! ๐ŸŠ Visit our website for offerings and for speciality aquatics programs.
4. Be Prepared! โœด Being prepared for an emergency is always a great idea๐Ÿ’ก. Supervising your child at all times near water ๐Ÿ“ต, taking precautions to prevent wandering, teaching ๐Ÿ“š your child pool rules, communicating with staff and neighbors about your child's tendencies is helpful to prevent and respond to emergencies. Training in first aid ๐Ÿค• and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) will help you understand the warning signs ๐Ÿ†˜ of an emergency as well as the mechanics of clearing the airway and performing chest compressions.
5. HAVE FUN! ๐Ÿ˜‹ Explore ๐Ÿ” and learn together the wonders ๐ŸŽ† of water! Water is a great way to stay healthy โค, hang out together ๐Ÿ‘ฏ, and build confidence ๐Ÿ˜Ž.

Coming Soon!

To our swim participants:

We have some wonderful news to share with you! As of Thursday, April 30th, the Governor’s executive orders mandating our temporary closure have expired and we will be able to begin welcoming members and additional employees back to work. Our phased restart plan starts with reopening on Wednesday, May 6th.

This does not include the Aquatics department at this time.

Thank you for continuing to be patient with and supportive of your Y while we plan for our community to come back to our facility. We miss you very much! System credits or refunds have been issued for all interrupted and cancelled swim lessons through May. Summer swim lesson registration is open for members and non-members. We have added a Friday and Saturday 6 week summer session for you, to offer as many opportunities this summer as possible.  We will keep you updated as we navigate our states requirements and recommendations as your safety is our #1 priority so please check back here often for announcements.

If you have been participating in private swim lessons, all private lessons have been put on hold and will begin as soon as possible upon reopen of the facility. Your instructors will continue to be in contact with you as needed or if you have specific concerns. Unless requested no prorated credits will be given.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate these uncharted waters together, but look forward for your to return safely to ours :)
